GRAPHITE

A frequently found mineral and (like diamonds) a modification of carbon. The

name derives from the Greek “graphein” which means “to write”.

The hardness of a graphite pencil depends on the mixing ratio of ceramic clay

and graphite powder. The more clay, the harder and lighter the writing and

painting. The more graphite added, the softer and darker the strokes.

Please note: Hardness is not generally standardized. This means for example

that pencils of hardness HB can differ slightly depending on the manufacturer.

Graphite Powder

	Pure graphite powder that produces exceptionally luminous light and dark shades of grey. It is especially suitable for large area applications. When applied in full concentration, it can recreate the visual feel of a metallic surface. Can be mixed with water or binding agents.

Chunky Graphite

	Chunky Graphite is an extra large, round graphite stick that produces a large extrasoft stroke. Its unique size and shape fits comfortable in the artist's hand. Especially suitable for large-scale drawings. Application of a fixative is recommended.
